London Police Sergeant Fired for Turning Up Drunk on Duty
A British Transport Police officer has been sacked without warning after showing up for work under the influence.
Drunk on Duty: Police Sergeant Dismissed
On July 27, Police Sergeant Coleman, stationed in London, was immediately dismissed by Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi following an expedited misconduct hearing.
Failed Breath Tests Sparked Swift Action
On June 4, 2022, PS Coleman reported for duty as a Custody Officer while impaired by alcohol. Tests confirmed he was over the limit, also testing positive for an unspecified substance. This breach of conduct left no room for leniency.
Chief Constable Hits Back at Misconduct
“This is a clear breach of the high standards we expect from police officers,” said Chief Constable D’Orsi. “We expedited this hearing to show how seriously we take such incidents.”
As a custody sergeant responsible for detainees, turning up drunk went against every value BTP stands for. Though no one was harmed, trust was broken.
Zero Tolerance on Police Misconduct
“His actions eroded public faith in our ability to protect them,” D’Orsi added. “Professionalism is non-negotiable. As a result, I’ve fired him with immediate effect.”
