Predator Jailed for Over 12 Years After Preying on Lone Woman at Liverpool Taxi Rank
William John Ormandy, 31, has been sentenced to 12 years and three months behind bars for raping an 18-year-old woman in Liverpool.
Deliberate Attack Near Liverpool Lime Street
Ormandy, from Derby Court, Church Road, Merseyside, appeared via video link at Liverpool Crown Court on March 18, where he pleaded guilty.
The judge revealed Ormandy “deliberately targeted a lone 18-year-old and isolated her, showing a significant degree of planning” before the assault.
Just before 2am on Sunday, February 6, Ormandy approached the victim as she searched for a taxi near Liverpool Lime Street station’s taxi rank.
He complimented her, saying, “you’re gorgeous”, and followed her as she tried to get a ride home.
When she refused his advances, he grabbed her, forced kisses, then dragged her into a nearby service alleyway where he raped her. Distressed, the victim was later helped by three women who got her home safely.
Caught on CCTV and Caught by Police
CCTV captured Ormandy fleeing the scene down Pudsey Street. Police launched a major investigation.
On February 16, he handed himself in at St Anne Police Station and was arrested for rape. Despite his claims that the kissing was consensual, he later admitted guilt in court.
Victim’s Heartbreaking Statement
“Since the incident I have not left the house unless accompanied by family. I don’t like being alone and need to know where my family are at all times.”
“I often sleep in the same bed as my sisters. My mum has held me while I cry. I am awake all night, taking showers, washing myself.”
“The rape has devastated my education. I failed all my university interviews and now fear what the future holds.”
Detective Inspector Condemns Ormandy’s Actions
“Ormandy is an opportunist sexual predator who preyed on a vulnerable girl and put her through a sickening ordeal.”
“Despite initially denying the crime, he surrendered when the net closed in. The victim’s bravery in reporting him is commendable, and we continue to support her while he serves his sentence.”
“Crimes like this may be rare on the railway, but they will not be tolerated. This swift conviction sends a clear message to sexual predators — justice will find you.”
Ormandy has also been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
