Knife-Wielding Tommy Powell Stabs Stranger in Chest Over Uninvited Visit

Tommy Powell showed up uninvited at a man’s home in Strood in June 2020. When asked why he was there, the 34-year-old suddenly stabbed the victim in the chest.

Denied Charges But Found Guilty After Maidstone Trial

Powell, from Ansell Avenue, Chatham, denied wounding with intent and having a knife in public. But a jury at Maidstone Crown Court found him guilty. He was sentenced on Tuesday 13 April 2021.

Violent Attack Unleashed After Aggressive Confrontation

  • Powell didn’t know the victim but arrived at the address with a mutual friend around 2pm on 12 June.
  • The victim’s partner let Powell in, but things quickly turned nasty when the victim questioned his visit.
  • Powell made a threat, pulled out a knife, grabbed the man’s shoulder, and stabbed him in the chest and finger.

Quick Police Action Leads to Arrest

Officers arrived at the scene and tracked Powell down to a nearby property. He was arrested just after 3.30pm on the same day. Charged the next afternoon, he was remanded in custody.

“Without any provocation, Powell subjected the victim to a savage assault which could easily have had fatal consequences,” said Charlotte Lundy, an investigator from Medway CID.

“He is clearly a dangerous offender who thinks little of inflicting serious violence on other people and I am pleased a custodial sentence has been imposed. I hope this result provides the victim with a degree of closure.”
