Dad Jailed After Chasing Burglars – Public Rallies with £100K Fundraiser

Family Targeted by Thieves, Dad Takes Action

Adam White, a father of two from Leighton Buzzard, made headlines after chasing burglars who stole a motorcycle from his home in 2019. The dramatic chase, featured this week on Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody, ended badly. White lost control of his car, causing serious injuries to the fleeing thieves.

During the pursuit, White admitted he underestimated a sharp bend and collided with the stolen bike. Bodycam footage shows the moment White was arrested, asking officers: “Am I in trouble? Am I going to prison for this?”

Dad Gets Prison Time, Burglars Walk Free

In a controversial verdict this February, White was handed 22 months behind bars for causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Luton Crown Court. Meanwhile, the culprits, 25-year-olds Taylor Benford and Ryan Paul, escaped jail time — receiving just 200 hours of community service.

Both burglars have lengthy criminal records including theft, reckless driving, and drug dealing, yet dodged prison while White paid the ultimate price. White’s legal battle also wiped out £50,000 of his life savings.

Public Outrage Sparks £100K Fundraiser

Since the episode aired, the public has rallied around the White family. A GoFundMe page set up for Adam’s wife, Lindsay, has smashed its target with over £100,000 raised from 5,000 donors.

“He was imprisoned for 22 months for knocking them off their STOLEN bike, and they received ZERO prison time. He blew £50,000 of his life savings. Let’s return it to him!!”

Lindsay White will manage the donated funds directly, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support.

Family Thanks Supporters

Adam and Lindsay took to Twitter to thank everyone who stood by them. Adam shared an emotional message:

“Thank you to everyone for your kind words and heartfelt sympathy. We have been through an awful lot. It was hard seeing this on TV, but all the messages I’ve received have been amazing and very emotional. I honestly can’t believe the public is behind me.”

“Everyone’s support is incredible. My wife just told me that some people have set up a GoFundMe page for me, and it truly breaks my heart. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, everyone; I’m at a loss for words.”
