Adam White Faces Jail for Chasing Burglar Fleeing with His Bike
Adam White’s gripping story hit screens this week on Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody. In 2019, burglars targeted Adam, his wife Lindsay, and their two children at their Bedfordshire home. The intruders stole a motorcycle and tried to escape. White jumped into his car and gave chase.
But the high-speed pursuit turned ugly. White lost control of his vehicle on a sharp bend, crashing and seriously injuring the two would-be burglars. Later, bodycam footage showed him being arrested, asking nervously, “Am I in trouble? Am I going to prison for this?”
Shock Sentence: Dad Gets 22 Months While Burglars Walk Free
Despite defending his family, White was sentenced earlier this year to 22 months behind bars at Luton Crown Court for causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Meanwhile, the burglars, Taylor Benford and Ryan Paul, both 25, dodged prison and were slapped with just 200 hours community service each.
Both men have worrying criminal records, including theft, reckless driving, shoplifting and drug dealing. Their lenient sentences have sparked outrage.
Public Rallies Behind White with £100,000 Fundraiser
Support has poured in for Adam since the episode aired. A GoFundMe campaign, set up by his wife Lindsay, has smashed its target, raising over £100,000 from more than 5,000 donors.
“He was imprisoned for 22 months for knocking them off their STOLEN bike while they received ZERO prison time,” the fundraiser states. “He lost £50,000 of his life savings. Let’s return it to him!”
Lindsay told us: “I will transfer all funds directly to Adam. Thank you all for your incredible support so far.”
Thanking the Public – A Family’s Emotional Response
White and his wife took to Twitter to thank well-wishers:
“Thank you to everyone for your kind words and heartfelt sympathy. It’s been tough seeing this on TV but the messages have been amazing and emotional. I honestly can’t believe the public is behind me.”
“Everyone’s support is incredible. My wife told me some people started the GoFundMe, and it truly breaks my heart. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I’m speechless.”
