Glass Bottle Assault Sparks Police Hunt
Just after midnight on May 17, chaos erupted on Maidstone’s Millennium Bridge. A man, reportedly chatting to a woman he knew, was suddenly hit over the head with a glass bottle. The victim suffered a nasty cut requiring hospital treatment. Police were called in fast.
E-Scooter Escape Ends in Arrest
Within 30 minutes, officers raced to a messy brawl in Knightrider Street. A suspect fled the scene on an e-scooter but was soon caught on Lower Boxley Road. During the arrest, the man kicked and bit two officers. Police also found a bottle and a sharpened keyring on him.
Racist Rant at Police Station
The trouble didn’t stop there. The suspect reportedly hurled racist abuse as he arrived at the station. He was identified as 29-year-old Luke Morgan from Hardy Street, Maidstone.
Heavy Charges for Morgan
Morgan now faces a slew of serious charges:
- Wounding with intent
- Two counts of assaulting emergency workers
- Racially aggravated public order offence
- Possession of an offensive weapon in public
- Possession of a bladed article in public
He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on May 18 and has been remanded to Maidstone Crown Court on June 15 for further hearing.
