Man Charged After Woman Restrained and Robbed in Shocking Burglary
A terrifying robbery unfolded around 6pm on Sunday, 4 April 2021, when a woman was held captive while money and valuables were stolen. Police say she was also assaulted during the ordeal.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Billy Williams, 28, from Smarden Road, Ashford, was arrested in Hythe on 20 April. Just two days later, he was hit with an aggravated burglary charge. He’s set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 April.
Police Search for Bike Owner Linked to Crime
Officers recovered a black mountain bike in Staplehurst on 10 April, thought to be connected to the incident. Detectives suspect it might be stolen and are desperate to find its owner.
“During the course of enquiries into this incident our investigators were alerted by a member of the public to the abandoned bike,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate. “We suspect it may be stolen and might be of relevance to our investigation. We are urging the owner to call the appeal line.”
