Thief Caught Red-Handed with Stolen Car and Knife Just Weeks After Prison

Repeat Offender Busted in Swindon

Lee Turner, 32, from Sheppard Street, Swindon, pleaded guilty at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday to multiple offences. He was charged with possessing a lock knife, taking a previously stolen vehicle without consent, and driving while disqualified.

Stolen Cars Targeted

On 25 March, two cars — a Ford Fiesta and a Citroen C2 — were reported stolen from a car storage yard on Handel Street, Swindon. Less than a week later, on 31 March, traffic cameras spotted the Fiesta cruising around town.

Quick Police Action Snags Crook

Officers later found the Fiesta parked on Oxford Street. Turner, who had been released from prison just three weeks prior for similar crimes, was seen leaving a nearby address, jumping into the car, and driving off. The Fortitude Team had him cornered and arrested swiftly.

During a strip search, a lock knife fell from Turner’s clothing, marking his third offence involving a bladed article.

Police Praise Team’s Work

“This is a good result as Turner is turning out to be a prolific offender; he had only just come out of prison before committing these offences. This was also his third possession of a bladed article offence,” said PC Victoria Barker from the Fortitude Team.

“The Fortitude Team continues to step up efforts to tackle criminality like Turner’s. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to target some of the most serious offenders in our communities.”
