Teen Jailed for Stabbing Friend to Death in London Park
A 17-year-old boy has been locked up for 10 years at the Old Bailey after fatally stabbing a teenager in a London park.
Deadly Clash at Craneford Way Playing Fields
The young offender, whose identity is protected by law, was convicted of manslaughter on 24 January. The court heard the chilling sequence of events that unfolded on 12 October 2021.
At around 4.30pm, Hazrat Wali and another teenager were sitting in Craneford Way Playing Fields when they were confronted by a group of six strangers, including the defendant. An argument quickly escalated, and a shoving match broke out.
After Hazrat pushed the defendant away with his left arm, the boy immediately pulled out a knife, plunging it into Hazrat’s right chest. The wound was deep, causing severe internal damage and fatal blood loss.
Tragic Loss of a Shy, Friendly Teen
Emergency services, including officers and the London Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene but could not save Hazrat.
Hazrat’s family revealed his heartbreaking backstory. He fled Afghanistan as a 13-year-old in 2015, briefly stayed in Austria, then settled in London in 2017 to start a new life. Known for being shy, polite, and kind, Hazrat was beloved by those who knew him.
Ashuk Mohamed, Hazrat’s brother, said: “No-one should have to suffer the way my brother did, no one should have to die this way. I am heartbroken that my brother has died this way, I wanted to help him and I couldn’t.
His death has left a void that cannot be repaired. The circumstance means I have had no closure and no way of saying goodbye. The devastation and trauma caused by Hazrat’s death can’t be explained in words. Our hearts are aching so much that we can’t express it. Our life will never be the same again and we will never forget Hazrat Wali.”
Police Warn of the Dangers of Knife Crime
Detective Inspector Matt Denby said: “Hazrat’s death tragically illustrates the awful consequences that carrying weapons can bring – a young man’s life has been cut short and Hazrat’s family and friends have been left to deal with the pain of this loss.
In addition, a teenage boy will now spend time in prison as a result of his actions that day.”
