Teen Stabs Friend to Death After Party Fallout in Ladyford Avenue

Tragedy Strikes at Late-Night Party

Steven Gilmour, just 17, was drinking at a friend’s house on Ladyford Avenue on the night of Friday, 21 May 2021. Around 2.30am the following morning, police were called to a disturbance in a lane behind the property.

Deadly Argument Ends in Stabbing

During the row, Gilmour stabbed 19-year-old Darryl Wright before fleeing the scene. Darryl was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital but tragically died two days later on 24 May.

Justice Served After Police Arrest

Gilmour was arrested and charged later the same day. Detective Inspector Stephen McCulloch from Saltcoats CID said:

Our thoughts are very much with Darryl’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. Although today’s conviction cannot change what happened I hope it brings some degree of closure.

He added:

This was an unprovoked attack on a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. Violence like this has no place in our communities. Police Scotland remains committed to bringing those responsible for such crimes to justice.
