Thief Caught After Snatching Wallet from Vulnerable Man in Broad Daylight

Shameless Theft on George Lane

Shane Myles targeted an elderly man on George Lane on 15 June 2021. The 30-year-old approached the victim, asking for 20p to phone his mother. When the man pulled out his wallet, Myles snatched it and sprinted off.

Fraud Spree Using Stolen Bank Card

Myles didn’t stop there. He used the stolen bank card at a shop on Dover Road, Folkestone, buying vodka, hair gel, and other items. The victim’s bank quickly blocked the card, stopping Myles from making more purchases at a second nearby store.

Caught on Camera and Brought to Justice

Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad got to work. CCTV caught Myles wearing a distinctive blue, red and white hooded top. When officers arrested him, he had a very similar top in his possession.

PC Adele Tyrer said: “Myles deliberately stole from a more vulnerable member of the community in an offence which would have had a lasting impact on the victim. I urge elderly and vulnerable residents to stay vigilant against criminals, whether at their doorsteps or out and about.”

Swift Court Justice

Myles, of no fixed address, admitted theft and fraud at Canterbury Crown Court on 29 June. On 29 July, he was jailed for one year and two months, sending a clear message to those targeting the vulnerable.
