Poplar Predator Gets Nearly Seven Years for Subway Sex Attacks
Ali Husseini, 27, from Poplar High Street, E14, was slammed with six years and nine months behind bars at the Old Bailey on Friday, 6 August. He’ll also face a decade-long sexual harm prevention order and must stay on the sex offenders’ register.
Serial Sex Attacker Targeted Women in Poplar Subway
Husseini was convicted of sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault at the same court on Thursday, 8 August. He had already admitted to another sexual assault before the trial began.
The court heard chilling details of Husseini stalking lone women through the eerie subway beneath the A12 in Poplar. Once he picked a victim, he would chase and attack them.
Three Chilling Attacks in Summer 2020
- 10 August 2020: Husseini followed a 32-year-old woman home from shops. In the subway, he grabbed her by the throat, forced her forward, then sexually assaulted her. The victim bit his arm, making him flee.
- 3 September 2020: A heavily pregnant woman walking through the empty subway was slapped from behind by Husseini, causing her to scream and escape.
- 4 September 2020: Husseini grabbed a 20-year-old woman by the throat and pressed her against the wall. He attempted to unzip her trousers and start undressing. The victim’s screams scared him off.
Police Nabbed Husseini After Alarm Raised
Following a police investigation, Husseini was arrested on 24 September 2020 and charged the next day. He was remanded in custody ahead of his conviction.
