Mother Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter After Husband Dies in Pillow Attack
73-Year-Old Woman Admits Killing Husband After Money Dispute
Janet Dunn, 73, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court today and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The shocking incident happened on March 15 after a financial argument with her husband of 53 years, Anthony Dunn, 81.
Pillow Used as Lethal Weapon
Witnesses reported Mrs Dunn holding a pillow tightly over her husband’s face. Tragically, Mr Dunn died as a result. Mrs Dunn then fled their home, leaving their adult daughter to discover the body and alert the authorities.
Guilty Plea Brings Some Relief to Family
Mrs Dunn was arrested the next day and originally charged with murder on March 17. Today’s guilty plea to manslaughter spares the family a stressful trial. “This was an incredibly heinous case that shocked the local community,” said a court spokesperson.
“Our thoughts are with Mr Dunn’s family as they cope with this tragic loss. We thank the officers for their tireless work on a tough investigation that led to this guilty plea.”
Mrs Dunn remains in custody and is due to be sentenced on August 25. The family now hopes to find some closure and start moving on from this heart-wrenching ordeal.
