Drink-Driver Jailed After Fatal Crash in Basingstoke
Stacey Deavin, 36, has been slammed with an eight-year jail sentence after causing a fatal crash while drunk behind the wheel. The incident unfolded in Basingstoke, leaving her boyfriend dead and others seriously injured.
Deadly Head-On Smash on Roman Road
The horror happened around 6.53pm on Saturday 8 January at the Roman Road and Roman Way junction. Deavin was driving a Ford Focus with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Reid Ben Lewis Logue, in the passenger seat. Both had been drinking for hours at The White Hart pub on Worting Road before getting into the car.
Deavin lost control and veered into the path of a Honda Civic. The two cars collided head-on. All four occupants suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Tragically, Reid died a week later.
Heavy Penalties Hit Drink-Driver
At Salisbury Crown Court, Deavin pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving under the influence of drink or drugs. The judge handed her a nine-year driving ban and demanded she pass an extended re-test to get her licence back.
Police Warn Drivers: Don’t Risk It
“Deavin was 1.8 times the drink driving limit when she got behind the wheel that evening,” said PC Kelly Hargreaves of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit.
“She would have known she was over the limit, having been drinking just before the crash. I hope this makes others think twice before driving home from the pub. Even a five-minute drive is never worth the risk.”
