School Worker Jailed for Abuse of Autistic Teen
Acasia Welburn, 26, from New Road, Telford, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison. She admitted to three counts of sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust.
Abuse Unfolded at North Yorkshire School
Welburn committed the offences while employed at a North Yorkshire school, where she held a trusted care role. Her victim was a teenage autistic boy. The abuse began with contact on social media, involving the exchange of sexual messages and images.
Regular Meetings Led to Shocking Abuse
Welburn met the boy regularly for sexual intercourse, using her car and flat as locations for the abuse. This vile exploitation happened over an extended period, exploiting her trusted position.
Police Praise Courage, Urge Victims to Speak Out
Detective Constable Alison Morris of North Yorkshire Police’s non-recent sexual abuse team said: “I cannot commend the victim enough for the incredible courage and determination that they have shown.
“This case shows victims can seek and receive justice. We encourage anyone affected by similar offending to contact the police—you will be supported and listened to.”
