The victim was walking down the street when the man asked for directions. He then followed her to her nearby vehicle, climbed into the passenger seat, and launched his attack. Thankfully, she screamed and fought back, forcing the attacker to dash off down Archfield Road. Although left distressed, she did not need hospital treatment.

Police hunt stocky white man in 30s with northern accent

Officers scoured the area but found no sign of the suspect. House-to-house enquiries are underway. The attacker is described as a stocky white man in his 30s with stubble and a northern accent. He wore a grey and black fleece jacket, dark shorts or trousers, and carried a black backpack.

“It is unusual for this type of incident to happen during the daytime in a built-up area,” said Neighbourhood Sergeant Nick Birch. “We will increase patrols in the area in the coming days, and the victim will receive assistance from our victim and witness care team. I urge anyone with information to come forward.”
