Woman Attacked by Intruder Who She Mistook for Her Son
A woman shouted out, thinking a man at her door was her son – but it was 29-year-old John Hunter instead.
Realising her mistake, she screamed at Hunter and a second unknown intruder to leave her home. As they stepped outside her front door, Hunter suddenly spun around and punched her in the face, knocking her to the floor. Both men then fled the scene.
Violent Assault Leaves Woman Injured
The victim suffered facial injuries during the shocking attack at her home on Peveril Street, Radford, in the early hours of 6 October 2018.
After police investigations, Hunter, from Gardendale Avenue, Clifton, was arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
Judge Slams Attacker with Suspended Sentence and Restraining Order
Hunter pleaded guilty and was sentenced at nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham Crown Court on 10 March 2023. He received an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. He must also pay £1,500 compensation and is banned from contacting the victim for two years under a restraining order.
“It must have been terrifying for this woman when she came face-to-face with these intruders,” said Detective Constable Darren Barker of Nottinghamshire Police.
“She suffered nasty facial injuries after Hunter turned violent without warning once outside her house. I hope today’s sentence brings some closure for her and makes this offender reflect on his appalling behaviour and the lasting impact it has caused.”
