Abuser Jailed After Four Years of Torture
Christopher Rice, 33, has been locked up for two years and three months after emotionally controlling his victim for four years. He manipulated her into obeying his every demand by threatening to leave her or harm himself if she reported his abusive behaviour.
Constant Control and Jealousy
Rice, from Church View Gardens, Annesley Woodhouse, bombarded the survivor with coercive texts throughout their toxic relationship that started in 2016. He accused her repeatedly of cheating, sifted through her phone, and forced her to delete photos, fearing she would send them to other men.
Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court
Rice pleaded guilty to controlling or coercive behaviour and received a restraining order along with his prison sentence at Nottingham Crown Court on 21 February 2023. Police Constable Gill Mee praised the survivor’s courage. She said:
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to this lady for the inspirational courage and determination she has shown throughout this case. This has taken a huge emotional toll on both her, and her son, over the last three years.”
“Rice has at last been dealt with by the courts. I hope this sentencing can bring her comfort and peace.”
“Anyone living in an abusive relationship knows how isolating it can be, destroying self-esteem. The survivor has been brave, telling her story even under difficult circumstances.”
“I hope this case reassures others suffering in silence that they will be listened to and kept safe. Police are here to help.”
