Speed Demon Jailed for 147mph M4 Madness
A 20-year-old from Harrow has been locked up after tearing down the M4 at a terrifying 147mph. Jawad Al Ali, of Malvern Gardens, admitted dangerous driving, no licence, no insurance, drug possession, and refusing a roadside test.
Swindon Crown Court sentenced him to six months in a young offenders’ institute today.
High-Speed Police Chase on the M4
On the evening of August 1, Sgt Will Ayres was running speed checks near Swindon when he spotted Al Ali’s Range Rover blasting along at over 100mph. When police tried to stop him, Al Ali floored it—racing at about 147mph on the hard shoulder, kicking up dust and overtaking several vehicles on the wrong side.
He finally exited the M4 at junction 17 but was caught and arrested in Kington Langley.
Cop Slams “Completely Unacceptable” Driving
“The manner of driving by Ali was completely unacceptable and put many road users’ lives at risk,” Sgt Ayres said.
He warned that driving at twice the speed limit, slipping past heavy goods vehicles on the hard shoulder, and driving uninsured and unlicensed was a dangerous cocktail. Police roadside tests also revealed cannabis in Ali’s system.
“It does not bear thinking about the consequences if he had collided with one of those lorries at that speed,” the officer added.
