Woman Jailed for Repeated Domestic Abuse in Market Weighton
Sheree Spencer, 45, from Beales Close, Market Weighton, was slammed at Hull Crown Court last month. She was handed a four-year prison sentence for years of coercive and controlling behaviour from January 2016 to June 2021, plus three assaults causing actual bodily harm between January and April 2020.
Judge Brands Case ‘Worst Controlling Behaviour’ Seen
Judge Kate Rayfield didn’t hold back, calling Spencer’s actions “the worst case of controlling and coercive behaviour I have seen.” Along with the jail term, Spencer was slapped with an indefinite restraining order.
Husband Suffered Shocking Abuse, Including Wine Bottle Attack
- One assault saw Spencer spit on and choke her husband.
- He was bitten multiple times during another attack.
- In a terrifying third attack, he was hit with a wine bottle, leaving permanent damage to his ear and elbow.
PC Adele Jenkinson praised Mr Spencer’s “strength, courage and patience” throughout the investigation. She hopes the sentence brings some closure and a brighter future for him and his family. “Sheree Spencer is an abusive and violent woman who subjected her husband to years of abuse,” said PC Jenkinson.
“The offences happened regularly, sometimes several times a day. I hope this sends a clear message: no matter who you are, we will listen, support, and act to deliver justice.”
