Isle of Wight Cop Sacked Over Lewd On-Duty Video
An Isle of Wight police officer has been fired after sending an explicit video of himself in uniform — while on duty — to a stranger he met on a dating app.
PC Jonathan “Joe” Finch was booted from Hampshire Constabulary following a two-day misconduct hearing last month.
Hundreds of Raunchy Messages Exchanged on Duty
The panel revealed that on August 9 and 10, 2018, Finch blasted 771 WhatsApp messages to an online date. Most were sexual, detailing plans for a tryst.
Shockingly, one message included a video of Finch exposing himself — fully kitted out in his Police uniform inside a police-owned building. Hampshire Constabulary refused to name the location.
The panel slammed Finch’s actions, ruling they breached professional standards on Duties, Responsibilities, and Discreditable Conduct — marking gross misconduct.
Dishonest Pay Claims Add to Misconduct
On August 10, Finch was allowed to leave early, missing an hour of pre-approved overtime. Yet, he dishonestly claimed pay for the time he didn’t work.
This deception was another serious offence, violating the force’s rules on Honesty, Integrity, and Duties.
Trusted Officer’s Shocking Fall From Grace
Finch was more than just a copper; he led Child Sexual Exploitation and Counter Terrorism on the Isle of Wight. Well known in schools and local groups, he served since 2006. But now he’s out — dismissed without notice.
His LinkedIn still lists him as a Hampshire officer despite his sacking.
Outside the force, Finch founded IW Pride and chaired governors at Medina and Carisbrooke Colleges for six years.
Deputy Chief Constable Sara Glen said: “Maintaining the trust and confidence of our communities can only be achieved if our police officers uphold the highest standards of professional behaviour at all times, but especially when on duty. Honesty and integrity is an integral part of being a police officer and there is no place within our force for those who choose to ignore the fundamental principles of policing.”
