Cop Caught in Drug, Cash Laundering Scandal Gets the Boot
PC Kashif Mahmood Faces Misconduct Hearing
PC Kashif Mahmood, based at Central East, faced a misconduct hearing on Thursday, 26 November. He was accused of discreditable conduct, dishonesty, and failing in his duties as a police officer.
Guilty of Misconduct and Criminal Conspiracy
On 5 August at Southwark Crown Court, Mahmood pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and conspiracy to acquire criminal property. He remains in custody, waiting for sentencing on Tuesday, 22 December.
Met Police’s Anti-Corruption Crackdown
Mahmood was convicted alongside five others following a probe by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards’ Anti-Corruption Command. The investigation started in March, targeting Mahmood and his associates for large-scale drug trafficking and laundering hundreds of thousands of pounds.
- Between Nov 2019 and Mar 2020, Mahmood operated in uniform and a marked police car.
- He teamed with an associate disguised as a police officer to seize cash from drug couriers.
- The cash was either drug payment or laundered money.
- Mahmood was arrested twice before being charged on 8 July.
Gross Misconduct and Immediate Dismissal
The hearing found all charges proven, ruling Mahmood’s actions as gross misconduct. He was dismissed without notice.
Commander Paul Betts, MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, said: “This is a very serious matter and there is absolutely no place for corruption within the Metropolitan Police Service. Following his conviction at court it is entirely right PC Mahmood has been dismissed and he will also be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list.”
