Angry Drunk Spits at Cop in Shocking Attack
PC Ryan Shiel faced a vile assault after responding to a domestic incident in Thorneywood Rise, Nottingham, on October 12, 2020. Michael Green, 43, was hostile from the moment officers arrived. “Green was very loud and confrontational,” PC Shiel recalled. “He was threatening to fight and refused to leave the premises.”
Spitting Incident Leaves Officer Feeling Violated
Backup was called to calm the situation. Officers managed to drag Green outside and place him in handcuffs. But when PC Shiel tried to put him in the police van, Green lost it.
“Green refused to enter the van and began shouting and swearing. Suddenly, he spat – right on my left cheek,” said PC Shiel. “I felt completely violated. It was disgusting and totally uncalled for.”
The attack left the officer worried, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic. “I didn’t know if he had any health conditions or Covid-19. It made me very uneasy.”
Six Months Behind Bars For Assaulting Emergency Worker
Green was dragged into custody and faced Nottingham Crown Court on November 24, 2020. He pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker. The judge handed down a six-month prison sentence.
“I could have fallen ill because of his callous actions, affecting my family,” said PC Shiel. “I’m glad he’s facing the consequences.”
Police Praise Justice, Warn Against Violence
PC Rebeckah Jackson, who led the investigation, condemned the attack. “This was an appalling experience for our colleague. No one deserves to be assaulted while doing their job.”
“I hope Green learns a hard lesson from this.”
