Man Charged with Arson After Fire Outside Crawley Police Station
Blaze Erupts on Northgate Avenue
A fire broke out outside Crawley Police Station late Saturday evening. Emergency services rushed to Northgate Avenue at around 8.10pm on October 1 after reports of the blaze. Thankfully, the fire was quickly put out and no one was injured.
Deliberate Fire Sparks Police Hunt
Police confirmed the fire was started deliberately. Officers launched a thorough search of the area for the suspect but initially came up empty-handed.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
On Monday, October 3, 30-year-old Julian Byrne, a roundsman from Shepherd Close, Crawley, was arrested on suspicion of arson. He also faces charges of using threatening and abusive words or behaviour causing harassment, alarm, or distress.
Byrne appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 4. He was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing scheduled for November 1.
