Man Charged Over Fake Grenfell Fire Safety Forms
Thomas Michael Clarke, 33, from Knowsley Lane, Prescot, faces fraud charges for signing off bogus fire safety forms.
Fake Fire Risk Forms Spark Mortgage Nightmare
After the Grenfell Tower tragedy, EWS1 forms became vital. They confirm a building’s cladding passes fire safety checks. Without them, residents can’t prove their homes are safe — blocking mortgage approvals.
88 EWS1 Forms Faked, Affecting Residents Across UK
In November 2020, 88 forms were fraudulently signed by someone not authorised to do so. The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau alerted Merseyside Police about suspicious activity between June and November 2020.
The bogus forms hit residents in South Wales and London the hardest, leaving them stuck without valid paperwork despite all actual checks having been carried out properly.
Next Stop: Liverpool Magistrates Court
Clarke is set to appear in Liverpool Magistrates Court on 3 August 2022, charged with fraudulent representation linked to the scandal.
