A 64-year-old thug has been locked up for a string of savage attacks on a woman in Crowborough. Ashley Gaunt, from Poplar Crescent, West Ewell, was sentenced to three years in prison following a terrifying spree of abuse.
Relentless Abuse Ends in Horrific Attack
The victim, a woman in her 60s, suffered months of physical and verbal cruelty from April 2024 to May 2025. The violence escalated horrifically on 12 May 2025, when Gaunt threatened to kill her, dragged her by the hair, punched her repeatedly, and tried to suffocate her.
Despite the savage assault, the brave victim managed to escape and raise the alarm. Police swooped in and arrested Gaunt on the very same day, ending her nightmare.

Sussex Police launched a rapid probe, charging Gaunt with five counts of assault, intentional suffocation, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates’ Court.
On 11 February, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Gaunt to three years behind bars. A restraining order was also issued, ensuring he stays away from his victim for the foreseeable future.
