RNLI Lifeboat Rushes to Aid Injured Sailor in Solent
Bembridge RNLI lifeboat was scrambled this Monday morning for a dramatic medical evacuation in the middle of the Solent. The volunteer crew launched just before 10am to reach a cargo ship anchored in the Bay Area off the Isle of Wight.
Sailor’s Head Cut from Rough Seas in Bay of Biscay
The injured crew member suffered a nasty cut to the head the day before while the ‘Eddystone’ battled the Bay of Biscay on its return from the Falkland Islands. Although the Captain stitched up the wound, he insisted the sailor get checked at hospital instead of waiting another 24 hours until docking at Marchwood.
Quick Decision Helps Get Sailor to Hospital
Following the lifeboat’s swift intervention, the injured sailor was able to make his own way to hospital for treatment. Thanks to the RNLI’s rapid response, the crew member received timely medical attention, avoiding further risk at sea.
