Brave Trio Foils Knife Attack in Birmingham City Centre
Three men have been hailed heroes after they stopped a vicious knife attack in Birmingham city centre. West Midlands Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford honoured their quick thinking and courage in a dramatic incident on August 16, 2022.
Heroic Acts Save Woman’s Life
Passer-by Paul Fogoe spotted a man attacking a woman with a knife outside a coffee shop. Without hesitation, Paul grabbed a chair and struck the attacker on the head, knocking him down and creating a shield between the victim and assailant.
Inside the coffee shop, Ali Mehmet rushed out to pull the woman to safety. The attacker ran off, but Ali gave chase while calling the police. Security officer James Crooks, patrolling nearby, joined the pursuit. He coordinated with the police via CCTV and activated his body cam, capturing vital footage.
Quick Response Leads to Arrest
- The attacker was tracked down and arrested shortly after, charged with attempted murder.
- The woman survived the terrifying ordeal and received medical treatment.
The bravery of Paul, Ali, and James was credited with saving the woman’s life and preventing further harm.
Heroes Rewarded with Top Honours
Chief Constable Craig Guildford presented the trio with Good Citizen Awards. All three are also set to receive the prestigious Police Public Bravery Silver Medal later this year, recognising their outstanding role in protecting their community.
