Knife Sweeps Hit Nottinghamshire Parks in Major Crime Crackdown
Police in Nottinghamshire have launched a series of proactive weapon sweeps across multiple parks to snatch up any discarded or hidden knives. The aim: protect innocent people and slash knife crime on local streets.
Broad Patrols Cover Popular Spots
Officers targeted hotspots all week, including Broadgate Park in Beeston, Peggys Park, Pirate Park in Sherwood, Broxtowe Country Park, Forest Recreation Ground in Forest Fields, and Welbeck Park in The Meadows. Armed with metal detectors, the cops combed these areas for any signs of blades.
Community Chat and Amnesty Bins
While sweeping for weapons, police also spoke directly with residents, warning of the dangers knives pose. They offered advice and support for anyone worried about weapons in their community. To encourage safe disposal, amnesty bins were set up countywide, allowing people to hand in knives anonymously and without fear of prosecution.
Backing National Operation Sceptre
This crackdown forms part of Operation Sceptre, a national week-long push to highlight ongoing efforts to fight knife crime and educate all communities on the dangers. Dedicated knife crime and Operation Reacher teams, alongside early intervention officers, continue investigating and steering youngsters away from crime all year round.
Superintendent Kathryn Craner, Nottinghamshire’s knife crime lead, said: “Operations like this show we’re taking a tough stand on knife crime across the county. Even though we didn’t find weapons this time, our presence reassures the public and deters criminals.”
“We know knife crime hits every community hard, and we are listening and acting on concerns by sending officers out with metal detectors. These sweeps help us engage with local people and keep them safe.”
“The impact of knives on victims, families, and communities can be devastating. We are united with our partners to fight this crime all year and will keep working with communities to drive knife crime down.”
