Drug Dealer Caught After Reckless 80mph Police Chase
A dangerous drug dealer who claimed he’d have escaped if not for a police stinger has been locked up for four and a half years.
High-Speed Chase Ends Near Sandwich
Spencer Bowen, 29, from Brent Way, Liverpool, was arrested on October 20, 2020, after police stopped his silver Audi near Sandwich. Officers had spotted the car suspected of drug dealing in Thanet and ordered Bowen to stop on the A256 south of Ramsgate.
Ignoring them, Bowen hooked up a wild pursuit. Police deployed a stinger near Richborough, puncturing two tyres, but Bowen still sped away at up to 80mph in a 50mph zone. He even drove on the wrong side of the A258 and went the wrong way round a roundabout, putting lives at risk.
Drugs, Knife and Cash Found in Car
Eventually, officers forced the car to a stop and found Bowen with cocaine worth up to £2,600, a knife, and £350 cash. He was arrested on the spot.
While sitting in the police vehicle, Bowen boasted he would have got away if the stinger hadn’t stopped his car.
Jailed for Dangerous Driving and Drug Supply
Bowen later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, and carrying a bladed article.
PC Adele Couchman said: “Bowen’s comments on arrest show he was unfazed by putting the public’s and police officers’ lives in danger. I praise the bravery of the officers who quickly ended this dangerous pursuit and brought him to justice.”
