British Grandfather Released on Bail After Florida Pool Attack

A British grandfather has been freed on bail after facing serious charges for allegedly trying to drown his son’s ex-fiancée in a Florida swimming pool.

Mark Gibbon Granted Bail Amid Shocking Attack

Mark Gibbon, 62, from Buckinghamshire, was released on $26,000 (£19,200) bail last Friday. He must now wear an electronic tag and hand over his UK passport. The incident happened last month during a drunken dispute over a will at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida.

Attack Details: Multiple Pool Struggles End With Child Intervention

Gibbon stands accused of pushing Jasmine Wyld, 33, underwater several times, leaving her with scratches and bruises. The drama reportedly stopped only when Wyld’s nine-year-old daughter stepped in. Initially charged with second-degree attempted murder, the charge was recently downgraded to battery by strangulation – still a very serious offence.

Next Steps and Possible Prison Time

Gibbon has been held in Polk County Jail since his August 3 arrest amid fears he might flee. His next court date is set for later this month, with trial expected early next year. If convicted, Gibbon could face up to 15 years behind bars.

Wyld described Gibbon as “a good man” who “adores his family” during a previous hearing.

Gibbon’s son, Alex, was sentenced to two years in prison last year following a separate incident involving a Porsche. This family saga is far from over.
