Busted on CCTV! Two burglars jailed after targeting family home

Two thieves have been locked up thanks to sharp-eyed CCTV footage. Jason Bowers and Jack Lee hit a house in Lower Halstow back in June 2018, but security cameras caught one of them in the act – and even captured their getaway car on tape.

Caught red-handed on camera

On 16 June, the homeowner returned from a family day out to find their kitchen drawers rummaged through and the house in disarray. It quickly became clear they’d been burgled. They called kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police, who were handed CCTV stills showing the side of Lee’s head as he prowled the property. A silver Ford Focus estate was also spotted speeding away.

Quick police work leads to arrests

Officers tracked the car to an address Lee often frequented. As Bowers, 46, and Lee, 48, approached the vehicle, cops swooped and placed them under arrest. During searches, Bowers was found carrying the car’s keys.

Prison sentences handed down at Maidstone Crown Court

  • Bowers, with no fixed address, got 3 years and 10 months for two burglaries plus driving while disqualified and uninsured.
  • Lee, also homeless, was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months for two counts of burglary.

“Bowers and Lee have proved they can’t live in society without preying on innocent people. There’s no excuse for burgling someone’s home,” said investigating officer PC Mike Wills. “This deeply intrusive crime leaves victims feeling unsafe in their own homes. The judge’s tough sentence shows the court’s clear stance on these offences. I’m proud we secured justice quickly, so the family can now move on knowing the culprits are behind bars.”
