Big Win in Chelmsford: Drug Gang Boss Gets Three Years
In a major crackdown on drug crime, Chelmsford’s organised crime ring has been dealt a heavy blow. Jordan Sweeney, the ringleader behind the illicit drug supply, has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting involvement in the sale of Class A and B drugs.
Right-Hand Man Gets Suspended Sentence
Sweeney’s sidekick, Reece Turner, who handled drug distribution under Sweeney’s orders, escaped jail but copped a 24-month suspended sentence loaded with strict conditions. The convictions came after a painstaking investigation involving specialist officers determined to shut down County Lines gangs trafficking drugs across Essex.
Operation Orochi Cracks the Case
The relentless Operation Orochi team zeroed in on Sweeney thanks to sharp intelligence work. They then uncovered Turner’s role as the dealer moving the drugs. Police swooped in December, arresting both during raids. Searches revealed crucial evidence, including multiple mobile phones and over £2,000 in cash, directly connecting them to the narcotic network.
Law Enforcement Praised for Taking Down Gang
Recorder Hallam KC hailed the officers’ “skill and enterprise” in ending the gang’s illegal dealings. He praised law enforcement’s vital role in protecting community safety by dismantling dangerous crime networks.
But the fight isn’t over. Authorities are now chasing Sweeney under the Proceeds of Crime Act, aiming to seize his ill-gotten gains. They are also pursuing Serious Crime Prevention Orders to stop him back in the game when he’s freed.
Police Vow to Keep Chelmsford Drug-Free
Detective Superintendent Gary Biddle, head of the serious violence unit, lauded his team for gathering solid proof against the pair.
Chief Inspector Paul Ballard, Chelmsford district commander, stressed the importance of joint efforts to shield communities from the devastation caused by drug crime. He said the successful prosecution sends a strong message that the city will not tolerate this dangerous trade.
The sentencing of Sweeney and Turner marks a clear victory in Essex’s ongoing war on drugs, proving local law enforcement are serious about keeping streets safe and upholding the rule of law.
