Gardener Burglar Jerry Johnson Banged Up for Stealing Safe

A 49-year-old man posing as a gardener has been jailed for burglary after duping a pensioner and nicking a safe stuffed with jewellery.

Jerry Johnson, from Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire, begged his way into a 74-year-old victim’s home on June 8 by offering gardening services – a trick the elderly man fell for.

Safe Stolen, Burglar Busted

Johnson returned to the property, sneaked inside, and made off with a safe full of precious jewellery. Thames Valley Police caught him and charged him with burglary on June 14.

Judge Slams Door on Johnson

At 1 Crown Court last Thursday, Johnson pleaded guilty and was promptly sentenced to two years and five months behind bars.

Detective Constable Kerry Mitchell of Milton Keynes Investigation Hub said: “We would like to remind members of the public not to accept offers of work from people canvassing door to door. We advise people to always use reputable tradespersons that you trust and have provided you with written quotes.”
