Basildon Man Caught in Child Sex Abuse Scandal

A grim victory for justice unfolded as 38-year-old David Kidd from Appleford Court, Basildon, was convicted for sexually assaulting a girl under 10. The chilling case unravelled swiftly after the brave victim reported the abuse in November 2020.

Victim’s Courage Spurs Rapid Police Action

The young girl, whose identity remains under wraps for protection, came forward with her shocking story. Specialist Child Abuse Investigation Team officers backed her every step of the way throughout the frightening ordeal.

Damning Digital Evidence Found at Kidd’s Home

Police arrested Kidd, who made telling comments during questioning. Forensic exams of his phones and laptop unearthed disturbing internet searches about children alongside indecent images.

In September 2021, Kidd was hit with two charges of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, plus three counts of possessing indecent images. Despite initially pleading not guilty, prolonged delays from Covid and a barrister strike stalled proceedings. But on day two of his Basildon Crown Court trial, Kidd flipped and admitted all charges on 18 July.

Justice Nears as Sentencing Looms

DS Ellie Nudd, leading the investigation, praised the victim’s strength and the family’s support during the arduous case. Kidd’s confession spared the young girl the trauma of testifying in court.

David Kidd’s sentencing is scheduled for Friday, 8 September at Basildon Crown Court.
