Couple Arrested After 19-Day-Old Baby Dies in Portsmouth
Two people appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates today, charged over the tragic death of a 19-day-old baby.
Mother Faces Murder and Child Harm Charges
Nicola Long, 42, from Agincourt Road, Portsmouth, stood in the dock wearing a black and white dress. She was seen crying throughout the hearing. Long faces one count of murder and a separate charge of causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child. Her lawyers made no bail application, and she was remanded in custody to appear at 1 Court on Thursday, June 16.
Partner Charged with Child Harm
Jason Brown, 43, Long’s long-term partner and also from Agincourt Road, appeared in court after answering bail. He was dressed in a blue jacket and T-shirt and was also in tears. Brown faces one charge of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm. No plea was entered, and his bail was extended. His case has been sent to Winchester Crown Court for trial arrangements.
Next Court Date Set for June 16
Both defendants will return on Thursday, June 16 at Winchester Crown Court, where a trial date will be fixed.
