Notorious Paedophile Gavin Cuthbert Faces Fresh Jail Time
A notorious paedophile, Gavin Cuthbert, is set to be sentenced this week for a string of child sex offences he admitted over a year ago. The 50-year-old, already serving 11 years, faces more time behind bars for abusing three additional victims over a 30-year span.
More Victims, More Horror
Cuthbert is charged with sexually assaulting three children between 1988 and 2018. Shockingly, some offences were committed while he was out on police bail during an ongoing investigation. The predator lured victims on trips to hotels in newcastle/" title="Newcastle" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Newcastle, County Down, and a caravan park in Millisle. One victim was enticed with sweets from Cuthbert’s so-called ‘tuck shop’ in his former Albertbridge Road home.
The ‘Beasts from the East’ Family
Cuthbert hails from a notorious family dubbed the ‘beasts from the east’ due to their horrific crimes in East Belfast. His brother, Mark Cuthbert, is serving eight years for abusing children, including the gifted footballer Paul Stirling. Another brother, ‘Billy’ Cuthbert, was jailed for four years for gross indecency with a female child and released in 2018.
Cuthbert is considered one of the most dangerous and prolific sex offenders in Northern Ireland.
Police have labelled their crimes among the most appalling ever investigated in the region.
