‘Drug Dealer, Not Murderer’: Suspect Denies Fatal Shooting at Essex Party
In a tense courtroom drama at Woolwich Crown Court, Israar Shah, 39, flatly denied murder charges linked to a deadly shooting outside a house party. “I’m a drug dealer, not a murderer,” Shah insisted as he took the stand.
Brutal Attack Leaves Man Shot Seven Times
The case revolves around the tragic death of Robert Powell, 50, who was gunned down outside a party in Roydon, near Harlow, Essex, back in June 2020. Powell was shot seven times, some bullets passing through his body, in a grisly attack around 4:45am. Shah and co-defendant Nana Oppong, 43, both deny murder.
CCTV Footage and Contradictions on the Stand
During cross-examination, prosecutors revealed CCTV showing Shah’s Toyota Prius moving “forwards and backwards” near the scene. Justin Rouse KC argued Shah had a clear view of Powell leaving the party, but Shah denied this, saying he only heard gunshots before fleeing.
“I’m an innocent man here, you’ve got me on trial for murder. I am not involved in this murder,” Shah declared.
Additional Charges and Ongoing Trial
- Both Shah and Oppong face possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
- Oppong is also charged with wounding with intent relating to a bystander, plus possession of a prohibited weapon.
The court continues to unravel the deadly chain of events at the Essex party. The jury is considering the evidence in this shocking case, with more sessions scheduled soon.
