Mother Jailed for Life After Killing Toddler and Stabbing Baby

A woman was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 20 years for the murder of her young son and the attempted murder of her baby boy. To protect the children’s identities, her name has been withheld. An indefinite restraining order has been placed on her concerning her three other children and their fathers.

Horrific Attack in Larne

The shocking incident happened on the morning of March 2, 2020, at a home in Larne. Police, ambulance crews, and Air Ambulance NI rushed to the scene to find two children stabbed.

The older child, aged two years and eight months, suffered fatal wounds to his neck and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The baby, just 11 months old, sustained similar injuries but survived after multiple emergency surgeries.

Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin Speaks Out

“Distressingly, these innocent little ones were stabbed by their own mother – someone who should have been protecting and caring for them. This is a case that will never be forgotten.

A young life was brutally taken, leaving a distraught and heartbroken father and family. No words can undo this tragedy or ease their pain. Our thoughts are with them today.”

Dark Past of Domestic Abuse Revealed

The case uncovered disturbing elements of domestic abuse. Both the father of one child and the woman’s ex-husband described controlling behaviour and emotional abuse inflicted by the defendant.

Detective Inspector Griffin added: “Domestic abuse isn’t just physical. It can affect anyone, including men, and there should be no stigma around male victims. Anyone suffering abuse, control, or intimidation by a partner or ex-partner should come forward. We will listen and support you with respect and sensitivity.”
