Gun Fired at Unarmed Police During Colindale Chase

On the evening of Thursday, 18 March, ten plainclothes officers from the Met’s North West Violence Suppression Unit were on patrol in Grahame Park Estate, Colindale. They were responding to reports of a large gathering in the area.

As they approached a group of around six local men, the suspects bolted. The officers gave chase on foot. During the pursuit, one of the suspects reportedly fired several shots at the unarmed police.

Luckily, no one was hurt, but the officers were left shaken by the dangerous incident.

Multiple Arrests Made as Manhunt Continues

Police have made several arrests connected to the shooting:

  • A 49-year-old man was detained near the scene for possession of a firearm, assault on an emergency worker, and cannabis possession. He is now believed NOT to be linked to the fleeing group.
  • A 33-year-old man was arrested on 4 April in Surrey. He has been bailed but also charged with possession with intent to supply drugs and recalled to prison.
  • A 26-year-old man was arrested on 6 April and released on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Chief Insp. Slams ‘Split-Second Violence’ Against Police

“Any level of violence against officers who serve the public and keep our communities safe will not be tolerated,” said Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger.

“The repercussions of this split-second action could have been grave – we could be investigating a murder. No officer should ever fear they may never come home from duty.”

“We’re urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward, including security, dash-cam or doorbell footage that could hold vital clues.”
