Don’t Get Slammed for Drink Driving as Essex Pubs Reopen!

Essex is buzzing with people heading back to pubs and restaurants for the first time since last year – but police have a clear message: don’t let a night out turn into a nightmare. As lockdown eases, officers warn that drink driving could wreck your weekend and your future.

Celebrate Responsibly – Think Before You Drink and Drive

This past year has been tough, but we’ve all played our part staying home to protect the NHS and save lives. Now, with socialising back on the cards, it’s tempting to let loose. But one slip-up behind the wheel after “one more for the road” could see you locked up or losing your licence.

Police on High Alert This Weekend

Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing, said:

“It’s wonderful to feel free on the roads again, and we want everyone to enjoy seeing friends and heading to pubs safely. But please, be sensible and do not drink and drive.”

Officers will be out in force across Essex, patrolling roads and communities. Anyone driving poorly, involved in accidents, or stopped will be tested for alcohol or drugs. The crackdown is serious – don’t think it can’t happen to you.

Plan Ahead – Avoid the Drama

Mr Pipe added:

“Instead of dealing with the fallout from an arrest or court case—potentially losing your job—plan your journey in advance. Use a designated driver or get a taxi. Enjoy your night without the guilt or risk.”

If you spot anyone driving after drinking or using drugs, report it immediately. Essex police remind everyone: just don’t drink or drug drive.
