Reckless Driver Jailed After School Bus Near-Miss
A dangerous driver who sped off from police and nearly slammed into a school bus has been slammed with jail time. Anthonie Denham, 29, from Dover, was locked up for 18 months and banned from driving for over three years.
Police Chase Ends in Crash
On 14 January 2019, officers spotted Denham behind the wheel of a Rover in Buckland Avenue, Dover. They signalled for him to stop, but he hit the accelerator instead. The police chase rattled through Springfield Road where Denham came inches from hitting a school bus before crashing into a kerb and parked car.
Wheel Falls Off, Danger Mounts
Even after losing a wheel, Denham kept driving recklessly, blowing through a junction on Brookfield Place and nearly crashing into moving traffic. He finally came to a halt and was detained. Disturbingly, a young child was found in the car throughout the entire terrifying episode.
Driver Admits Guilt, Police Sound Warning
Denham confessed he tried to evade the police and was driving dangerously. Investigating officer Ben Hibbert said: “Denham was driving so dangerously it is fortunate that no one was seriously injured or killed. His reckless actions not only put himself in danger but all members of the public in the area and his very young passenger who thankfully was unharmed.”
