Brutal Robbery: Thug Sentenced for Attacking 75-Year-Old in Home Invasion
Violent Raid on Sleepy Pensioner
Andrew McNair, 28, from Warden Bay Road, Sheerness, has been jailed for five years and four months after a savage robbery. The terrifying attack happened at around 9.30pm on Saturday 10 October 2020 in Kent Avenue, Minster.
McNair was one of three masked men dressed in black who broke into the elderly victim’s home while he was asleep in his living room chair. They smashed into the property through a bedroom window before launching a vicious assault.
Elderly Man Beaten for Cash
The 75-year-old was hit repeatedly in the face as the thugs demanded money. To stop the brutal beating, the pensioner told them about £600 stashed in a nearby bag. Although they grabbed the cash, the attackers still kept pressing for more before finally making off.
DNA Evidence Cracks Case
Kent Police swooped after finding DNA on the bedroom window used as the entry point. This match linked McNair to the scene. He was arrested 18 days later and has been in custody ever since. Despite pressure, McNair refused to name his accomplices, who remain at large.
Detective Constable Matt Sherriff said: “Andrew McNair has shown himself to be a coward who is capable of inflicting appalling cruelty on an elderly man who was asleep when he began the attack.”
“His willingness to use such violence shows him to be a very real danger to the public and I am pleased that he has now faced justice.”
“The offence was abhorrent. Anyone with information about the other offenders should come forward. It’s never too late to help.”
