Teen Driver Charged Over Fatal Isle of Wight Crash That Killed Pensioner

Fatal Collision on Forest Road

Yaashmi Ravikumar, 19, from Essex, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a deadly smash on Forest Road, Newport. The crash, which happened near the junction with Whitehouse Road on 14th April 2019, involved a Mini One, a Southern Vectis double-decker bus, and a Fiat Bravo.

One Dead, Multiple Injured

  • 64-year-old Yvonne Copland sadly died in the collision.
  • Her husband Derrick was seriously hurt and spent seven weeks in intensive care.
  • Three others also suffered serious injuries.

Major Emergency Response

The smash took place at 12:46am on a Sunday, prompting a major emergency response. Four air ambulances from across the South swooped in to assist local crews. Hampshire Constabulary have been probing the crash for months.

Driver to Face Court

Ravikumar, a maths student and financial assistant from Laindon, Essex, faces one count of death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury. She is scheduled to appear at Isle of Wight Crown Court on 15th May 2020.
