Driver Jailed for Hit-and-Run That Killed Woman in Southampton
A careless driver has been locked up for a year after causing a fatal crash and fleeing the scene.
Man Admits Causing Death by Careless Driving
Daniel Rogan, 24, from Sandpiper Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to causing the death of 35-year-old Allison Steege by careless driving.
Southampton Crown Court heard Rogan was behind the wheel of a yellow Mercedes van that struck Ms Steege on Tremona Road at 10:50pm on April 25, 2015. She was rushed to hospital but sadly died from her injuries.
Fled the Scene, Then Surrendered
Instead of stopping, Rogan fled the scene and only handed himself in two days later after police tracked down his van.
Sentenced and Banned from Driving
Rogan was jailed for one year and banned from driving for two and a half years.
“This tragic incident could have been avoided if Mr Rogan had been paying attention,” said PC Mark Furse. “I hope this sends a clear message to motorists: keep your eyes on the road, or face devastating consequences.”
