Speed Demon Caught: Sheerness Man Jailed After 100mph Police Chase in Stolen Audi
Wild Pursuit Ends in Jail
A Sheerness motorist tore through the streets in a stolen Audi at over 100mph – throwing glass bottles and driving the wrong way down a busy road. Harrison Bennett, 29, of Marina Drive, Minster-on-Sea, finally got caught and jailed for 18 months.
Police Forced to Abandon Chase
It all kicked off on the evening of 13 December 2019 when officers spotted Bennett’s Audi sporting cloned number plates in Sheerness High Street. Police tried to stop him, but Bennett slammed the accelerator instead, recklessly swerving towards oncoming traffic and hurling bottles out of the window.
The cops called off the chase for safety reasons. But they didn’t give up. A search found the car abandoned in Berridge Road. Inside a nearby house, officers found Bennett trying to flush the car key down the toilet – which they recovered.
Courts Shut Down ’Dangerous’ Driver
At Maidstone Crown Court, Bennett pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, handling stolen goods, and driving without a licence or insurance. He was slapped with an 18-month prison sentence and a 30-month driving ban.
“Bennett drove so dangerously that evening it was lucky no one was injured,” said Detective Constable Kara Sweetland from North Kent CID. “He showed complete disregard for the safety of himself, his passenger, officers, and other road users. Our officers’ swift action ensured he was tracked down and brought to justice.”
“Thankfully, he’s now off the roads, so Swale is a safer place,” she added.
