Shoplifting Spree Lands Man with Suspended Jail Sentence
David Blann, 36, from East Preston, has escaped prison after racking up more than £1,400 in stolen goods from West Sussex supermarkets. Between March and July, Blann pulled off 25 thefts and one botched attempt across several stores.
Quick Capture and Guilty Plea
Blann was caught red-handed on 18 July and charged immediately. He didn’t bother denying the accusations, pleading guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court. On 22 September, he was hit with a 17-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
Police Hit Out at Rising Retail Crime
Sussex Police slammed Blann’s spree for wreaking havoc on local shops and hitting businesses hard. Sergeant Amelia Roberts warned:
“Retail crime has a real impact on shop workers and the community. We remain committed to tackling offenders and supporting businesses.”
Operation Apprentice Cracks Down on Repeat Thieves
Blann’s sentence is part of Operation Apprentice, Sussex Police’s relentless campaign to curb repeat shoplifting. The mission aims to protect local stores from theft and keep communities safe from disruption.
