Teen Jailed for Brutal Samurai Sword Attack
Brandon Engert, 18, was locked up for nine years today after savagely attacking a 23-year-old man with a samurai sword. The horrific assault happened at his home in Heinz Burt Close, Eastleigh, on December 21, 2018.
Life-Threatening Head Injury
Engert used what an expert called a ‘samurai sword’ to slash the victim’s skull, exposing his brain. The man also lost sight in his left eye following the vicious attack.
Police Hunt Weapon, Three Others Cleared
Engert was arrested alongside three others, who were later released with no charges. While Engert was on bail, officers launched extensive searches, including diving in a pond at Avenue Park with the Marine Unit, but the weapon was never found.
Detective Slams “Almost Fatal” Attack
“What started out as a night at a party ended in an argument with an almost fatal conclusion,” said Detective Sergeant Simon Price. “The weapon could have killed the victim – he is lucky to be alive. This assault has changed the victim’s life forever, and Engert’s actions will affect him too.”
