Eight Men Nabbed in Major Co-op Theft Crackdown in Stockport
Eight men have been hit with 57 charges following a targeted spree of thefts across Co-op stores in Stockport. The arrests come after a thorough police probe aimed at stamping out crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.
Key Offenders Face Multiple Charges
Leading the pack is Stephen Ridgway, 44, homeless, slapped with 11 offences including nine thefts, an attempted theft, and breaking a Criminal Behaviour Order. Close behind is Darren Sweeney, 55, from Victoria Park, Offerton, charged with 11 offences covering seven thefts, three public order violations, and one assault.
- Dean Bower, 36, Duke Street, Stockport: 9 counts of theft.
- Thomas Stopford, 36, no fixed abode: 8 theft charges.
- James Brindle, 31: 4 thefts plus 1 public order offence.
- Adam Poynton, 40, Holmfield Close, Heaton Norris: 5 thefts.
- Lee Garland, 43, no fixed abode: 5 theft counts.
- Craig Forde, 39, Peel Hall Road, Manchester: 3 thefts.
Police Praise and Community Warning
Chief Inspector John Picton of Stockport police applauded his team, saying, “The Stockport Town Centre Neighbourhood Team continue to achieve outstanding results. The momentum continues apace in tackling criminality and anti-social behaviour, particularly theft-related offences.”
He warned, “Our teams relentlessly pursue those who harm our communities. The message is clear—crime and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
