Woman, 40, Dies After Jaywick Assault – Man Charged With Murder

Tragic Death of Michelle Cooper

Michelle Cooper, 40, from Clacton, died after suffering a head injury in an assault on Friday, 23 April, in Jaywick’s Beach Way. She was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away on Sunday, 25 April.

Man Charged Over Attack

Bobby Nethercott, 31, of Park Square East, Jaywick, has been charged with Michelle’s murder. He also faces two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH) related to the same incident. Nethercott appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 27 April, and is set to face Chelmsford Crown Court on 4 June.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Jennings from Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “Our investigation into Michelle’s death continues. It is not too late to speak to us if you have any information that will help my officers.

“I appreciate incidents like this can cause concern to the local community, but we believe this was an isolated attack with no risk to the wider public.”
